At the heart of Smiling Gecko’s social enterprise model is The Farmhouse, an eco-resort and hospitality training centre located just outside Phnom Penh. Built and operated with purpose, The Farmhouse not only offers guests an immersive farm-to-table experience in rural Cambodia, but also serves as a training ground for local youth—equipping them with vocational skills in culinary arts, sustainable farming, and eco-tourism.

When you support The Farmhouse, you’re doing more than enjoying a peaceful stay or a beautifully prepared meal—you’re directly investing in Smiling Gecko’s mission. The Farmhouse operates as a social enterprise, where 100% of profits are reinvested into education, vocational training, and community development projects across our campus in rural Cambodia.

Bungalows and Suites

Embedded in the Smiling Gecko Campus, the park-like resort is a place of heavenly tranquility where the Smiling Gecko Story can be perfectly experienced. The farmhouse has 24 tastefully furnished rooms spread over 12 bungalows in classic Khmer style and 10 brand new suites. All rooms and suites have air conditioning and generous furnishings, such as private terraces or day beds.

Farmhouse Restaurant

The resort’s main restaurant serves typical Cambodian cuisine from morning to night. The breakfast buffet is served here, as well as lunch and dinner in the evening. The latter is regularly enriched by atmospheric pool barbecues and other themed evenings.

Restaurant “Un”

With the new restaurant “Un” and the “Chef’s Table”, the hotel has two real fine dining options. This is where the spectacular “New Khmer Cuisine” of our head chef Mariya Un Noun is celebrated. The restaurant is one of the best in the country and the best proof that the Smiling Gecko philosophy works. Because Mariya is a child of the slums and was trained by us.

Sanctuary Spa

With a total of 8 treatment rooms, a pool and the adjoining “Sanctuary Café”, our award-winning spa is a real oasis in the middle of a wonderful tropical garden in which we grow rare Cambodian plants, among other things. The spa is definitely another reason to spend a few days at the resort.

Pool Bar and Lounge

With climatic conditions such as those prevailing in Cambodia, the pool is a focal point of every hotel. We are proud that our saltwater pool is particularly beautiful and, with the attached pool bar and lounge, also offers two fantastic opportunities to switch off.

Local Attractions

A guided tour of the Smiling Gecko Campus is one of the highlights of a visit to us. But there are also numerous other ways to experience rural Cambodia. Be it a temple tour, a visit to a palm wine factory or an excursion to Tonle Sap Lake with its traditional floating villages.
