Our Mission
Our mission is to break the cycle of poverty in vulnerable communities in rural Cambodia through a holistic, sustainable development model focused on education, vocational training, and economic self-sufficiency.
How the Model Works
Smiling Gecko follows a holistic approach based on economic and ecological principles to help impoverished families in rural Cambodia find a way out of poverty. In 2014, we purchased our own land in Kampong Chnang province, north of Phnom Penh, and built the 150-hectare Smiling Gecko Educational Campus.
The centrepiece is the school and kindergarten, where children from the age of three are taught bilingually in Khmer and English. There are also several craft training centres and an award-winning hotel. All the businesses are networked and managed in a market-oriented way. Their common goal is to become self-sustaining by 2030.
